Equitable and Excellent Education

What have we accomplished?

  • Under my leadership as Board President ETHS and District 65 adopted the first ever joint board goal on literacy
  • More rigorous freshman year classes provide more students with access to honors and AP classes where more students succeed, especially students of color (our Board received a National School Board Association Magna Award) and now improved sophomore year classes will build on this progress
  • Students continue to achieve the highest ACT scores in school history
  • Rankings improved in US News and World Report (13 in Illinois) and Washington Post (10 in Illinois) ahead of schools like Oak Park River Forest and New Trier

What more can we do?

  • Work with District 65 to establish measures for progress towards our joint literacy goal and track that progress
  • Strengthen work to eliminate differences in achievement based on race, as well as income, disabilities, and language, particularly for students who do not read at grade level when they arrive at ETHS (and who graduate at lower rates)
